Ginette Harrison

Ginette Harrison (born February 28, 1958 , † October 24, 1999 at Dhaulagiri ) was a British mountaineer .

Harrison studied medicine at the University of Bristol , specializing in altitude medicine . At the age of 25, she climbed Denali , the highest mountain in North America. It was the first of her series of the highest mountains on all continents. She was the second British woman to stand on Mount Everest on October 7, 1993. In 1995 she had completed both the Carstensz and Kosciuszko versions of the “ Seven Summits ”.

In 1997 she climbed the Cho Oyu . Her greatest success was probably the ascent of the Kangchenjunga over the north face on May 18, 1998. She was the first woman to climb this eight-thousander. In the same year she was able to climb the central summit of Shisha Pangma . In 1999 she first climbed the Makalu before she was killed in an avalanche on Dhaulagiri.

She was married to Gary Pfisterer , whom she met on her expedition to Mount Everest.
