Ginette Leclerc (born February 9, 1912 in Paris ; † January 2, 1992 there ; born Genevieve Lucie Menut ) was a French actress .

Life

The daughter of Louis Menut and Suzanne Fauth began as a model for postcard photography and had been a stage actress, conférencier in revues and first film roles as an extra since the early 1930s .

She was best known in 1938 as a dissolute baker's wife in The Other Woman and in 1943 as a vamp in Henri-Georges Clouzot's film The Raven . Since she worked continuously for the Nazi-controlled film company Continental during the occupation, she was boycotted for two years after the liberation of France in 1944.

After that, she continued her film career, but also increasingly turned back to the stage. There she played, among other things, in The Cat on the Hot Tin Roof and in the Sartre pieces The Honorable Whore and Closed Society .

A serious broken bone in 1984 meant that she had to give up her acting profession and was dependent on a wheelchair. She was married to the dancer Lucien Leclerc from 1930 until the divorce in 1939 and was later in a relationship with the actor Lucien Gallas for ten years.
