Gino Rippo (actually Giosué Rippo ; born December 7, 1895 in Naples , † 1958 in Rome ) was an Italian documentary filmmaker , film director , cameraman and author.

Life

Rippo studied technology at the Politecnico di Torino , graduated in engineering and specialized in electrical engineering, about which he published several specialist books. Throughout his life he was concerned with innovative ideas for reproducing images. Occasionally he worked for the film, first as the director of a production company, then as a director and cameraman of various documentaries and short films. In 1925, Rippo also directed a feature film, the little-known Il principe apache . Even after the introduction of the sound film, he remained loyal to documentary film and refined his work behind the camera (which he also described in another book, L'operatore cinematografica ). In 1954 the second fictional film, the melodrama Ho pianto per te! Was shot almost alone (in addition to the direction and camera he was responsible for the script, production and editing) . .
