Gintautas Piešina

Gintautas Piešina (born April 8, 1952 in Šiauliai , † April 25, 2014 in Vilnius ) was a Lithuanian chess player. In 1988 he was awarded the title of International Master . He won the championship of the Lithuanian Soviet Socialist Republic five times (1972, 1974, 1978, 1984 and 1988). In 1988 he was the winner of the joint championship of the Baltic States and Belarus . In 1994 he took part in the Chess Olympiad in Moscow . He played a single game for Lithuania in the first round against Yemen, which he won. He played club chess in Lithuania for the team of the Vilnius Chess School , with which he took part in the European Club Cup in 1996, and in the Polish team championship in 1991 for KSz Hetman Gryfów Śląski . He reached his highest rating of 2430 in January 1989.
