Gioacchino Vitagliano

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gioacchino Vitagliano (* 1669 in Palermo ; † April 27, 1739 ibid) was an Italian baroque sculptor in Sicily .

Life

Vitagliano not only created marble sculptures, but also stucco figures . He was probably trained in the workshop of Giacomo Serpotta (1656–1732), whose daughter he married and whose designs he often implemented.

The sculptors Niccolo Vitagliano and Vincenzo Vitigliano are probably the sons of Gioacchino. The marble sculpture Santa Rosalia (1744) on the forecourt of the Cathedral of Palermo comes from the latter .
