Giorgi Bezhanishvili (born November 16, 1998 in Rustavi ) is an Austrian / Georgian basketball player .

career

Bezhanishvili came to Austria from Georgia in 2012 when he and his brother were brought in by their mother, who had moved to Vienna ten years earlier . He played basketball in the youth of the Viennese club Basket Flames and made his debut in the men's team in the second division during the 2014/15 season. In 2016 he moved to BK Klosterneuburg , played in the Bundesliga and was funded by the Klosterneuburg location of the Federal Youth Basketball Competence Center. In 2016 he also took on Austrian citizenship.

For the 2017/18 season he received a scholarship for "The Patrick School" in Hillside , New Jersey . For the school team, he averaged eight points per game in the 2017/18 season and moved to the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign  (first division of the NCAA ) for the 2018/19 season . There he also became a regular player, was always in the starting line-up in 33 appearances in his first year and scored an average of 12.5 points and 5.2 rebounds.

National team

In the summer of 2019, he was appointed to Austria's national men's team for the first time by Raoul Korner .
