Giorgio La Malfa (born October 13, 1939 in Milan ) is an Italian politician of the Partito Repubblicano Italiano .

Life

His father was the Italian politician Ugo La Malfa . La Malfa studied law. From 1980 to 1982 he was budget minister, from 1987 to 1993 he was party secretary in the Partito Repubblicano Italiano , but initially withdrew politically in 1993 after a corruption scandal in his party. In 1994 La Malfa returned to party politics and has been President of the Partito Repubblicano Italiano since 2001 . From 1989 to 1999 he was a member of the European Parliament . From 2001 to 2005 La Malfa was President of the Finance Committee of the Camera dei deputati . From April 2005 to April 2006 he was Minister for European Union Affairs until the governing coalition lost its majority. In 2006, La Malfa succeeded in re-entering the Camera dei Deputati as a member of parliament in the parliamentary elections, and in 2013 he left parliament. He is a member of the European Leadership Network .
