Giovanni Battista Giusti (* around 1625 ; † around 1693 ) was an Italian harpsichord maker . He lived in Lucca . From 1648 to 1664 Giusti was trained as a harpsichord maker by Giovanni Battista Boni and from 1665 by Girolamo Zenti . From 1676 to 1693 he ran his own workshop in Lucca.

Preserved instruments

About 20 instruments are attributed to Giusti. Probably only half of them are authentic.

Two of the instruments, a harpsichord from 1679 privately owned in Bologna and a harpsichord from 1681 owned by the Historisches Museum Basel are characterized in part with an unusual disposition for Italian harpsichords. They have two 8 'and one 4' registers. The others have the usual two 8 'registers.

Another from 1677 is in the holdings of the Museum Nord , the Museums Schleswig-Holstein & Hamburg . It was revised in the 18th century and set in a richly painted case on a gilded frame. The inside of the lid is covered with painted canvas. The exterior painting was created in France around 1730 based on engravings by Claude Gillot , Antoine Watteau and Peter Paul Rubens .
