The Tehran – Hamadan railway is a railway line in Iran .

Geographical location

The route branches off in Tehran's outskirts Parand from the historic route of the Trans Iranian Railway to the west and crosses Saveh , Abad , Gharq , Famenin and Kuridschan to Hamadan . Here it is to be connected to a line under construction from Malayer to Sanandaj .

history

Construction of the single-track line began in 2001, but had to be stopped in 2004 due to the sanctions against Iran. From 2015 it was possible to continue building. The route was finally opened on May 8, 2017 by the Iranian President Hassan Rohani . The construction costs amounted to around 2.7 billion euros.

Technical parameters

The 267 km long route is built in the standard gauge of 1435 mm that is usual in Iran . The maximum permitted speed for passenger trains is 160 km / h and for freight trains 120 km / h. The line's capacity is designed for 2 million passengers and 4 million tons of goods per year.
