Giovanni Battista Triumfetti

Giovanni Battista Triumfetti , also Giovanni Battista Trionfetti (born May 8, 1656 in Bologna , † 1708 in Rome ) was an Italian doctor and botanist .

Life

Giovanni Battista Triumfetti was professor of botany and director of the Botanical Garden in Rome from 1682 until his death . He was a critic of the work of Marcello Malpighi . Since 1699 he was a corresponding member of the Académie royale des sciences .

Dedication names

Charles Plumier named the genus Triumfetta of the linden family (Tiliaceae) in his honor . Carl von Linné later took over this name. Furthermore, after him, the colorful knapweed ( Centaurea triumfettii All. ) And the chamomile species Anthemis triumfetti (L.) DC. named.
