Giovanni Catenazzi

Giovanni Catenazzi , also in January Catenazzi called (* 1660 in Morbio Inferiore , † after 1724 in Poznan ), was from Switzerland originating and Poland acting architect .

life and work

Around 1662 he followed his father, Andrea Catenazzi, who had settled there earlier, to Poland. At first he lived and worked in Leszno , where he built the parish church of St. Nicholas from around 1692–1697. He then built the church in Stary Białcz near Kościan from 1696 . In 1698 Jesuits obliged him to build the collegiate church of St. Stanislaus for them and in 1701 the Jesuit college in Posen.

He was also u. a. responsible for the reconstruction of the Dominican Church of the Most Holy Heart of Jesus and Our Lady of Consolation (Jesuit Fathers ) in Poznan (1700), the Cistercian monastery in Obra (1701–1702) and in January 1720 the building of the Franciscan Church in Woźniki .

He was an excellent representative of the classicist Warsaw Baroque and is credited with numerous other buildings.
