Giovanni Leonardo Primavera
Giovanni Leonardo Primavera , also Giovan Leonardo Primavera , (* around 1540 in Barletta , † after 1585 ) was an Italian composer, poet and music editor of the Renaissance.
life and work
Primavera was born in Barletta; Most of his life he worked in Naples. He composed numerous madrigals . In addition to this artistic top form, he also created numerous Neapolitan Villanelles . Primaveras Madrigal Nasce la gioia mia chose Palestrina as a template for a mass.
Primavera published several volumes with its own madrigals and villanelles. He has also appeared as a lyricist on some of his madrigals. He also included compositions by musicians with whom he was on friendly terms such as Alessandro Striggio the Elder , Massimo Troiano , Francesco Portinaro , Pompeo Stabile and Giovanni Leonardo de l'Arpa in his works .
Primavera was temporarily in the service of the Marchese di Vico as the dedication of his work Frutti from 1573 shows.
