Giovanni Vittorio Amoretti

Giovanni Vittorio Amoretti (born May 1, 1892 in Imperia ; † November 15, 1988 in Turin ) was an Italian literary historian , literary scholar and Germanist who dealt in particular with the life and work of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe .

Life

After completing his studies, Amoretti worked as a literary historian and scholar as well as a Germanist and in the 1920s also worked at the Romance Studies Institute at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn .

In his publications, some of which also appeared in German translation , he not only dealt with German-language literature , but also edited commented or translated editions of works by Goethe, Conrad Ferdinand Meyer , Johann Peter Eckermann and August Wilhelm Schlegel . For his work he was awarded the Medal of the President of the Republic of the Premio Nazionale Letterario Pisa .
