Gisela Mayer

Gisela Mayer (born October 30, 1931 in Stuttgart ; † July 1, 2020 in Ellwangen ) was a local politician in Ellwangen and founder of the first women's list in Germany.

Life

Gisela Mayer graduated from the Hölderlin-Gymnasium in Stuttgart in 1949 and worked as a foreign language secretary at the Association of German Mechanical and Plant Engineering in Stuttgart. In 1955 she married the lawyer Curt Mayer, in whose office in Ellwangen she headed the office. The couple have five children. Her daughter Ingrid Alice Mayer is a lawyer, politician and author.

Gisela Mayer died on July 1, 2020 in the St. Anna-Virngrund-Klinik at the age of 88 as a result of an intestinal operation.

Political career

In 1979 Gisela Mayer founded the Ellwanger Frauenliste, the first all-women list in the Federal Republic of Germany . In the local elections in 1980 she received almost 10% of the vote with the list. Gisela Mayer was a member of the local council for 24 years. Gisela Mayer founded the State Association of Free Women's List Baden-Württemberg , which she took over as chairman in 1986. From 1989 to 2004 she was a district councilor in the Ostalb district . After the death of her son and husband, she retired from politics in 2004.

Honors

In 1996 she received the Barbara Künkelin Prize from the city of Schorndorf for her commitment to local and women's politics and in 2003 the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon . In 2007 Gisela Mayer received the SME Prize for Social Responsibility in Baden-Württemberg for her social commitment .
