The Hölderlin Gymnasium Stuttgart ( HöGy for short ) is a gymnasium run by the City of Stuttgart with a focus on foreign languages and art.
history
The Hölderlin-Gymnasium was opened on April 17, 1899 as the first girls' gymnasium in Württemberg , the gymnasium was founded by the palace lady Countess Üxküll-Gyllenband , the then chairman of the board of directors, and Johanna Dorothea Bethe, the then head of the advanced training institute. At first it was a private institution for daughters of educated classes to pave the way for them to go to college . For cost reasons, the facility joined the women's training institute at Kronenstrasse 41 in the same year, but in April 1900 the school moved to Alleenstrasse 29 and split from the women's training institute in spring 1901. In 1903 the first female students graduated from high school. In 1909, on the 10th anniversary, the grammar school was given the name Queen Charlotte grammar school . In April 1912 the move and the inauguration of today's school building in Hölderlinstrasse 28, in Stuttgart-Nord .
In 1937, during the Third Reich , Latin and Greek lessons were banned, which meant the temporary end of the humanistic tradition of the Queen Charlotte High School . The name was changed to Hölderlin-Oberschule , after the bearer of the name Friedrich Hölderlin . In the post-war period, in 1946, the first matriculation exams took place again, the Hölderlin-Gymnasium became a linguistic high school again with an old-language train and two modern-language trains. The old-language train was dissolved by 1977. From 1970 on, male pupils were also accepted into the 5th grade and since 1996 there has also been an art profile at the school. In 1999 the Hölderlin-Gymnasium celebrated its 100th anniversary.
