The Schickhardt-Gymnasium is a general education high school in the south of Stuttgart . It was named after the Renaissance master builder Heinrich Schickhardt . The school is an elite sports school .

School history

Due to the rapid growth of the city of Stuttgart, planning began in 1911 for a new school building in the south of Stuttgart. After teaching was initially outsourced to neighboring schools for a year, the newly built school building in Schickhardtstrasse was ready for occupation in 1913.

In 1941, what was then the Schickhardt Realschule was renamed the Schickhardt Oberschule (since 1952: Schickhardt Gymnasium). An extension was built in 1971 for the natural sciences.

In 2001 the school received the status of an “Elite School of Sports” for the first time. From 2012 the main building underwent a general renovation, so that the 100th school anniversary could be celebrated in 2013 in the completely renovated and modernized main building.

The language sequence is English from grade 5 and Latin or French from grade 6. Furthermore, in grade 8, a choice must be made between the scientific profile and the sports profile. As an elite school for sports, the Schickhardt Gymnasium also supports competitive athletes and senior athletes. For example, the school cooperates with the volleyball departments of MTV Stuttgart and the Volleyball Landesverband Württemberg as well as the soccer departments of VfL Sindelfingen and the Württemberg Football Association for girls / women. In the area of ​​handball (boys), the school cooperates with the TVB 1898 Stuttgart .

particularities

The students can take part in class trips to Norderney and England as well as a ski trip in the German-speaking Alpine region. Partnerships are also maintained with schools in France ( Créteil , since 2014), the USA ( Idaho Falls , since 1985) and China ( Chongqing , since 2004).

The school has been part of the nationwide school network Schools Without Racism since 2009 .

As a school with a focus on sports, the Schickhardt Gymnasium regularly takes part in sports competitions (for example: young people train for the Olympics ).

Since the beginning of the 2017/18 school year, the school has been participating in a pilot project to test tablets in class.
