history

Today's Evangelical Heidehof-Gymnasium goes back to the establishment of a reform school Heidehof by Eugen Henschen in 1908 as an "open-air, garden and forest school" in what was then the house at Heidehofstrasse 7 on Stuttgart's Gänsheide, in Stuttgart's half-height location. In 1912 it was possible to move into new buildings at the current location at Heidehofstrasse 49 and 50. According to Henschen, part of the school's reform concept was "to spare the child's nerves that threaten modern life with its excitement and overstimulation" .

The reform school Heidehof became the "Evangelical School" in 1932; The land and the building were bought by the “Evangelisches Töchterinstitut” school foundation. In 1937 the school was transferred to the city as part of the “standardization of the National Socialist educational system”; the school foundation was dissolved, the Heidehof school renamed the Uhlandoberschule and relocated to the Waldorf School building on Uhlandshöhe.

Two years after the end of the war, the Evangelical Church in Württemberg and the Evangelical Church Community of Stuttgart re-established the school foundation and decided in 1948 to rebuild the Heidehof School (since then under the name of Evangelisches Heidehof-Gymnasium) - only for girls. The lessons began at once within the trench High School, the Mörike secondary school and in the Protestant parish hall of St. Peter Church. In 1952 the reconstruction was completed. The upper school was officially recognized in 1958. The school houses were rebuilt again in 1962/1965, an auditorium was added, and the day care center was set up. The latter is still used today for pupils in grades 5 to 8 (today grades 5 to 7) who spend supervised play and work time in small groups after lunch until 5:00 p.m. (until 4:30 p.m. today). Due to strong demand, a branch was opened in the Sillenbuch district of Stuttgart in 1966, with class 5, 6, 7 and 8 each, and it was run until 2004. Joint lessons for boys and girls were introduced in 1979, and since 1996 the entire church community of Stuttgart has been the sole sponsor of the school foundation and grammar school.

In the years 2002 to 2004 the school was completely renovated and rebuilt. A new building was erected that accommodated the four classes after the branch in Sillenbuch was closed; the natural science rooms were brought to a future-oriented level through a comprehensive renovation of the existing buildings: lessons based on the experimental practice of scientific work have been possible in six subject rooms since 2004; Laboratory workplaces were created.

In 2008 the Heidehof-Gymnasium was 100 years old. Until 2010, the entire facade of the new building was decorated with wide green stripes and the words "One hundred years Heidehof". The strips were removed in early summer 2010.

particularities

One of the conceptual peculiarities is the “holistic upbringing”, which includes the social , religious and musical-aesthetic area. In grades 11 (in eight-year grammar school in grades 10), a three-week social internship is completed at the end of the school year. There are working groups in music , works , sport , chemistry , IT and the environment , a practical subject in grades 7 and 8 and a school psychology service .

One of the special features of the Evangelisches Heidehof-Gymnasium is the weekly prayer , with which the start of the school week starts every Monday at 7:55 a.m. In addition, there are church services at the annual Christian festivals, at the start and end of the school year and to say goodbye to high school graduates .
