Gisela Cross, 1006

Gisela (* around 950 ; † July 21, 1006 or 1007 in Regensburg ) was Duchess of Bavaria and the mother of Emperor Heinrich II . She was the eldest daughter of King Konrad III. of Burgundy from the family of the Guelphs , probably from his first marriage to a badly attested Adelana. She was the niece of Empress Adelheid , wife of Otto the Great .

Gisela was married to Duke Heinrich the Brawler of Bavaria. The engagement probably already took place in 965, the marriage was probably consummated in the summer of 972. On May 6, 973, their eldest son, who later became emperor, was born. She spent the time while her husband was in custody in Merseburg .

Gisela was buried in the Niedermünster in Regensburg . Her daughter commissioned the magnificent Gisela Cross for her grave .
