Brun (o) von Augsburg († April 6 or 24, 1029 in Regensburg ) was Bishop of Augsburg from 1006 to 1029 .

Life

Brun (o) was the younger son of Heinrich the Quarrel , Duke of Bavaria, and his wife Gisela of Burgundy . He was the brother of the future Emperor Henry II. († 1024) and the later Hungarian Queen Gisela , with King Stephen I was married. Between 1002 and 1005 Brun (o) stayed in Hungary because of a falling out with his brother Heinrich . There he supported Stephan in setting up his administration. Heinrich called his brother back after the replacement of his first chancellor, Egilbert , who later became Bishop of Freising (1005-1039), made him his chancellor in 1005 and appointed him bishop of Augsburg the following year.

The relationship between the two brothers was changeable, at times very tense. Brun (o) remained German Chancellor and Bishop of Augsburg even after the death of his brother Heinrich. After the death of Henry II († 1024), the two daughters of Otto II and Theophanus - Sophia , Abbess of Essen and Gandersheim and Adelheid , Abbess of Quedlinburg - were the last Ottonians living in the empire alongside Brun (o) . Since all three had embarked on a spiritual career, they could not inherit Heinrich II. Decisive for the smooth dynasty change from the Ottonians to the Salians (or the smooth succession to the throne of Konrad II ) was the side of the last Ottonians for Konrad II and against Konrad the Younger , who was also a Salier and cousin of Konrad II and from 1036 served as Duke of Carinthia until 1039 .

Brun (o) was founded in 1026 by Konrad II with the education and training of his son and successor Heinrich III. instructed. This meant de facto the transfer of the reign during the Italian campaign of Conrad II (1026-1027). At Easter 1027 Brun (o) was in Rome with his pupil Heinrich and took part in the imperial coronation of Conrad II. Also in 1027 he took part in the Synod of Frankfurt . The relationship between Brun (o) s and Konrad was very good, he was considered one of the most important advisors to Salier.
