Giulia Piersanti

Giulia Piersanti (* around 1976 in Rome ) is an Italian fashion designer. She has worked for the fashion labels Balenciaga , Lanvin , Dior Homme , Missoni and Fendi . She is currently the chief designer for men's and women's knitwear at Céline . Giulia Piersanti was responsible for the costumes in the last three films by Luca Guadagnino .

Life

Giulia Piersanti was born in Rome and moved to Paris with her parents when she was seven . As a teenager she moved to the USA, initially to Los Angeles . In New York City , she studied fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design . She then moved to Miu Miu in Milan . There she met Luca Guadagnino. When Guadagnino was planning his film A Bigger Splash and had precise ideas about the clothes his actors would wear, he asked them to help him make it. For this film she was nominated for the Golden Ciak Award and the International Online Cinema Award (INOCA).

She was also nominated for a Golden Ciak for Guadagnino's following film, Call Me by Your Name . Her inspiration for the film, she says, was 1980s fashion, fashion photos by Charles H. Traub, teenage magazines of the time, and Éric Rohmer's 1983 film Pauline on the Beach .

She was also responsible for the costumes for Guadgnino's film Suspiria , which premiered in Venice in 2018 .

Giulia Piersanti is married and lives in Milan.
