from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Giulio Cesare Barbetta (* 1540 in Padua ; † 1603 ) was an Italian lutenist and composer.

Barbetta can be seen as the most important lutenist of the second half of the Italian 16th century. His work is particularly evident in the madrigals , the most important secular form of music of its time, but also in canzonettes and fantasies . He is considered to be the first composer to write and publish sheet music for the seven-course lute . The works of Giulio Cesare Barbetta were edited by Angelo Gardano in Venice in Italian tablature .
