Paul Singer (State Secretary)
Paul Singer (born March 24, 1932 in Vienna ; † April 16, 2018 in São Paulo ) was a Brazilian sociologist and economist .
Life
Paul Singer was born in Vienna in 1932 . At the age of eight, he and his family emigrated to Brazil, fleeing from the National Socialists . In the 1960s he studied economics in São Paulo. Then he went to Princeton , New Jersey (USA). After completing his stay in the US, he became professor of sociology and macroeconomics at the University of São Paulo . His research fields included urbanization and economic development in Latin America, particularly in Brazil.
In addition to his academic work, he worked as a planning councilor for São Paulo from 1989 to 1992.
In 2003, Singer was appointed State Secretary in the Brazilian Ministry of Labor for the National Secretariat for Solidarity Economy by President Lula da Silva . In his role, he created the framework for the development of the regional economy. Churches, trade unions, universities and parties support this building process across the country.

Paul Singer was a member of the Honorary Board of Directors of the Paulo Freire Center in Vienna
On March 13, 2009 he was awarded the Great Silver Decoration on Ribbon for Services to the Republic of Austria .
