Giuseppe Avitable

Giuseppe Avitable (born January 14, 1921 - December 10, 2009 in the Bronx ) was an Italian diplomat.

Career

From October 18, 1968 to 1973 he was Consul General in Chicago . In 1975 he was Chargé d'affaires in New Delhi . In 1979 he received exequatur as the Italian Consul General in Frankfurt am Main . In 1981 he married Gunhild Gabbert Avitable , who brought Joana Giulia and Federica Maria Alessandra into the marriage. From his first marriage the children Daniela and Elena emerged. On November 11, 1982, he landed in Buenos Aires on behalf of the Italian government to learn from the Argentine military government under Reynaldo Bignone what happened to about 300 Italian citizens and people of Italian origin who disappeared during Operation Condor . From February 6, 1984 to 1986 he was ambassador to Guatemala under Óscar Humberto Mejía Víctores , before the civil war regarding the use of paramilitary groups had reached an unprecedented climax under the government of Efraín Ríos Montt . In 1986 he was retired .
