Giuseppe Belli (physicist)
Giuseppe Belli (born November 25, 1791 in Calasca , † June 1, 1860 in Pavia ) was an Italian physicist.
He studied in Pavia and obtained his doctorate in 1812. phys. et math. and then was an engineer and assistant in Pavia. In 1821 he was appointed full professor of physics at the Porta Nuove Lyceum in Milan. From 1842 he was at the University of Padua. He took over the chair from Alessandro Volta .
He led research in the fields of meteorology and thermology, among others . His main interest was electrical phenomena. He built numerous scientific instruments, including a new type of hygrometer , a psychrometer , an electric duplicator, and an electric motor.
He was a corresponding member of the Imperial Academy of Sciences in Vienna, a member of the Lombard Institute of Sciences, a member of the Royal Academy in Turin and the Athenum in Brescia.
