Giuseppe Cardinal Bofondi

Giuseppe Bofondi (born October 24, 1795 in Forli , † December 2, 1867 in Rome ) was Cardinal State Secretary .

Life

The son of the patrician Antonio Bofondi and the Marchesa Ramagnoli studied in Ravenna philosophy and in Bologna Jura, where he in 1817 also to Dr. jur. utr. PhD. Raised a prelate on February 7, 1821 , he became an auditor of the Rota Romana on March 8, 1822, and its dean on January 24, 1842. Determined cardinal in pectore on December 21, 1846 , his name was published on June 11, 1847 and shortly thereafter he was appointed cardinal deacon of San Cesareo in Palatio . Since August 17, 1847 Apostolic Legate of the City of Ferrara, he was designated as Apostolic Legate for the city and province of Ravenna on October 29, 1847, which he remained until January 1848. First a member of the prefecture for public affairs, then its prefect, he finally became foreign minister of the Papal States on February 2, 1848 . From February 1, 1848 to March 10, 1848 as Cardinal Secretary of State, from July 11, 1850, he was Prefect of Finance.

Giuseppe Bofondi was a priest  - his ordination date is unknown - but never became a bishop .
