Giuseppe Cades
Giuseppe Cades (born December 8, 1750 in Rome , † December 8, 1799 there ; more rarely Joseph Cades ) was an Italian painter and graphic artist .
He grew up in Rome as the son of a French father. Cades was best known for his ability to copy and imitate the works of old masters in a deceptively real way. The director of the Dresden Gemäldegalerie is said to have considered one of his hand drawings to be a “real Raphael ” even after an assurance from Cades about his authorship .
Cades' own works were considered skillful, but not very original. A late style of his own that gradually developed, based on the influence of French painting (including Jacques-Louis Davids ), could no longer come to full bloom due to his early death.
One of his best known works was the encounter between Count Gautier d'Angers and his daughter Violante, created for the Villa Borghese in Rome .
