Giuseppe Chiovenda

Giuseppe Chiovenda (* 1872 in Premosello ; † 1937 in Novara ) was an Italian lawyer and professor at the University of Rome.

Giuseppe Chiovenda taught at the universities of Parma , Bologna , Naples and Rome . He coined the renewal of Italian civil procedure law and introduced the distinction between the admissibility and the merits of an action. As a result, only in the first case (given admissibility) can a final decision on the matter (merits) be made ( concettualmente sentenzasentenza di rito ).

After him, his hometown was renamed Premosello-Chiovenda in 1959 .
