Giuseppe De Nittis
Giuseppe Gaetano De Nittis (* 25. February 1846 in Barletta ; † 22. August 1884 in St-Germain-en-Laye in Paris ) was an Italian painter of Impressionism .
Life
Giuseppe De Nittis received his first drawing lessons from the local painter Giovanni Battista Calò, who urgently advised him to continue his studies in Florence . He was particularly influenced by the artists of the Macchiaioli , whom he met in Florence in 1863. He was one of the founders of the similarly oriented school of Resina in Naples. Giuseppe De Nittis later moved to Paris , where he lived until his death. In Paris he met Camille Pissarro , Gustave Caillebotte , Giovanni Boldini , John Singer Sargent , Jacques-Émile Blanche , Edvard Munch and Edgar Degas , who later influenced his works.
Giuseppe De Nittis died of a stroke at the age of only 38 . He was buried in the Saint-Germain-en-Laye cemetery.
