Giuseppe Ghezzi (* 1634 in Comunanza ; † 1721 in Rome ) was an Italian painter and copyist who was mainly active in Rome during the Baroque .

biography

He was the son and student of the painter Sebastiano Ghezzi and was born in Comunanza , in the province of Ascoli Piceno . Sebastiano died when Giuseppe was only eleven years old and he was sent to Fermo to study philosophy, but also took painting lessons from Lorenzino da Fermo . Then he moved to Rome, where he put painting over law school. He painted in many Roman churches.

He painted in the style of Pietro da Cortona and was the first secretary in perpetuity of the Accademia di San Luca in Rome. He was the father of Pier Leone Ghezzi and mentor of Pietro de 'Pietri (1634-1721).

On December 10, 1676, he borrowed a number of private works by Venetian masters and exhibited them in the cloister of San Salvatore in Rome. He published a book of collected poems about art that describes an academic competition. Ghezzi died in Rome in 1721.
