Giuseppe Perniciaro

Giuseppe Perniciaro (born January 11, 1907 in Mezzojuso , Province of Palermo , Italy ; † June 5, 1981 in Piana degli Albanesi ) was bishop of the Piana degli Albanesi eparchy , an Italian-Albanian diocese in Sicily .

Life

Perniciaro received his training at the Pontifical Greek College in Rome, received his doctorate in theology in 1928 and then studied Eastern Church Studies. He was ordained a priest on July 7, 1929 . On October 26, 1937, he was appointed titular bishop of Arbanum and appointed auxiliary bishop in the Eparchy Piana dei Greci. The episcopal ordination donated to him on January 16, 1938 Giovanni Mele , bishop of the Eparchy of Lungro degli Italo-Albanesi ; Co- consecrators were the auxiliary bishops Paolo Schirò and Alexandre Evreinoff . Giuseppe Perniciaro initially worked as auxiliary bishop and vicar general of the apostolic administrators of the Eparchy Piana dei Greci, renamed in 1941 to Eparchy Piana degli Albanesi. On July 12, 1967, he was appointed the first Greek Catholic eparchen in this diocese, which since 1960 has also included the Latin parishes of its territory.
