The Estádio Municipal de Portimão (formerly: Estádio do Portimonense Sporting Clube ) is a football stadium in the southern Portuguese city of Portimão , Algarve region . It is the home stadium of the Portimonense SC football club .
history
The stadium was built in 1937 in the center of the city of Portimão. A trailer left the property to the club to build a stadium on it. In 2006, the descendants of the donor asked for the building land back. The case went to court and Portimonense SC had to temporarily move to the Estádio Algarve in Faro, about 70 kilometers away, for several months .
In February 2007 the club returned to the old stadium. The city bought the property in July 2007 and the stadium was renamed Estádio Municipal de Portimão ( German : Städtisches Stadion von Portimão). Renovation work on the stadium also began at this time. There were u. a. Green plastic seats installed, a video surveillance system and turnstiles installed at the entrances.
In 2010 Portimonense SC made it to the SuperLiga , the first Portuguese league. For the 2010/11 season the stadium was renovated and expanded again. A grandstand was built for around 800,000 euros and a drainage system was laid under the new lawn. Furthermore, the floodlight system was improved, the press stand renovated, the cabins and sanitary facilities renewed. After these renovations, the stadium now offers 9,544 seats. Until the construction work was completed, Portimonense SC played its games at the Estádio Algarve in Faro.
