Giuseppe Petito

Giuseppe Petito (born February 25, 1960 in Civitavecchia ) is a former Italian cyclist and national champion in cycling .

Athletic career

His first significant success was the victory in the Italian championship in the road race of amateurs in 1979. In 1980 he started in the road race at the Summer Olympics in Moscow and was classified as 27th. In 1981 he became a professional driver in the Santini-Selle Italia team . He won a stage of the Tour of Sweden and was second on the tour. In the same year he drove his first Giro d'Italia , which he contested ten times. The 55th place in 1984 was the best result in all of his participations. In 1983 he won a stage of the Vuelta a España (which he drove four times), a year later he won the Trofeo Laigueglia . He contested the Tour de France in 1986 (retired on the 13th stage) and 1994 , where he also left prematurely. His best result in the monuments of cycling was eighth in the Milan – San Remo race in 1986. Petito was active as a professional until 1996.
