Christa Hammerl (* 1957) is an Austrian historian and geographer with a focus on research into historical earthquakes , historical climate developments and natural disasters .

life and work

Christa Hammerl began her academic training in 1975 with a teaching degree for geography and history at the University of Vienna . From 1978 to 1981 she taught at a secondary school in Vienna. In 1981 she moved to the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics (ZAMG).

Since 1986 Christa Hammerl has been researching historical earthquakes in Austria, Central Europe , the Alpine region and the Pannonian Basin at the Institute for Meteorology and Geophysics at the University of Vienna . In her dissertation , which she submitted in 1992, she dealt with the reconstruction of the earthquake of January 25, 1348 on the Dobratsch . In 1999 she switched to the Austrian Seismological Service at the Central Institute for Meteorology and Geodynamics as a research assistant.
