Giuseppe Virgili

Giuseppe Virgili (born July 24, 1935 in Udine , † June 10, 2016 in Florence ) was an Italian football player , he played in the position of a striker .

Giuseppe Virgili began his career in his hometown at Udinese Calcio , where he was able to earn a regular place in his second season. In the 1954/55 season he then moved to Fiorentina where he was to spend four very successful seasons. In the 1955/56 season the Florentines became champions for the first time in their history thanks to the numerous goals from Virgili. This also made it possible to take part in the 1956/57 European Cup . Here the viola reached the final, but where it failed at Real Madrid . In the 1958 season, Virgili then switched to league rivals Talmone Torino , at the end of the season Torino finished last despite ten Virgili goals and thus rose to Serie B. For the season 1960/61 Virgili moved to AS Bari and returned to the Serie A return. However, Bari was relegated to Serie B at the end of the season. In the following Series B season he then lost his regular place and was only able to score three hits.

National team

From 1955 to 1957 Virgili played seven caps for the Italian national team. He made his debut on November 27, 1955 in the home game against Hungary , which the Hungarians won 2-0. In the 3-0 win of the Italians against the Brazilian national football team on April 25, 1956, Virgili scored his two international goals. With the 6-1 victory of the Yugoslav national football team on May 12, 1957, Virgili's calls-up for the national team ended.
