Joseph "Giuseppe" Wilson (born October 27, 1945 in Darlington , England ) is a former Italian football player . Born in the north of England as the son of an Englishman and an Italian, his family moved to Italy shortly after his birth, where he played almost his entire football career.

Career

Giuseppe Wilson began his professional career at Cirio and played for Internapoli from 1965 to 1969 . He then moved from Naples to Rome and played 296 games for Lazio from 1969 to 1979, scoring four goals. In 1972 he rose with Lazio from the second division to the first division. In the following season, the team took third place. In 1974 the center-back won the Italian championship title with Lazio, the first ever in the club's history. He played 3 international matches for Italy in 1974 , two of them at the World Cup as a substitute against Argentina (1: 1) and against Poland (1: 2) (Wilson played his first international match in Rome in February 1974 in a 0-0 draw against Germany). With Luciano Re Cecconi and Giorgio Chinaglia , two other players of the reigning champions were part of the 1974 Italian World Cup squad . In the following years, fourth place in 1975 and fifth place in 1977 were Lazios best placements in the first division. Wilson ended his career in 1979 with Cosmos New York .
