Giuseppe Zamboni (Romanist)

Giuseppe Zamboni (born June 28, 1903 in Saint Petersburg , † December 10, 1986 ) was an Italian Germanist and Italianist .

life and work

Giuseppe Zamboni (not to be confused with the philosopher of the same name, 1875–1950), had a German mother and studied German in Florence (doctorate 1927 on Barthold Heinrich Brockes , in: Atti del Reale Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere ed Arti 90, 1930– 1931, pp. 879-945). In 1936 he became a guest lecturer for Italian in Leipzig , from 1940 professor. In 1943 he became cultural advisor at the embassy of the Italian Social Republic in Berlin. After the war, he taught at the Scuola Normale di Pisa until 1949, then went to Basel as a lecturer , where he became a full professor of Italian literature in 1962. Zamboni left 8000 volumes for the Romanesque Seminary in Basel.
