Companies
Gizeh Raucherbedarf GmbH processes cigarette paper into papers and filter tubes. It markets these products internationally under various brand names; the best-known brands are Gizeh (German standards: Brand of the Century 2007 and 2010), Mascotte, Silver Tip and Marie. The range also includes screw-in filters and tamping devices.
The printing works, administration and national and international sales are located in Gummersbach. Gizeh is one of the few companies in the consumer goods industry that has its own print shop with an attached punch. This plans and produces highly specialized packaging for papers and filter tubes in the Gummersbach-Windhagen industrial park . The central warehouse in Bergneustadt started work in 2017.
Products
In Germany, Gizeh is one of the leading providers in the market segments of turning (roll your own) and tamping (make your own).
Leaflets
Papers from Gizeh are available in paper weights from 12 to 23.5 grams per square meter. The main ingredients are either cellulose, a flax / hemp mixture or hemp. The natural gumming consists of gum arabic or starch-based dextrin. Gizeh papers differ in their burning behavior (slow, medium, regular burning) and in the dimensions regular size: 35.8 mm × 68 mm, extra slim size: 27.8 mm × 68 mm, king size slim: 44 mm × 107 mm. Some types of leaflet have corner sections on one long side that make it easier to screw in. The packaging design of the Gizeh Black product series received the red dot design award in 2011 .
Filter sleeves
Filter tubes from Gizeh are available in different designs: Standard and extra tubes differ in the tube length, the diameter or the length of the filter (standard 15 millimeters, extra 25 millimeters). In addition, there are filter sleeves with micro-perforation (“Airstream filter”) and with activated carbon.
equipment
In addition to papers and filter tubes, Gizeh offers a matching range of accessories. The most important components of the range of accessories are screw-in filters in various diameters from 5.3 to eight millimeters made of various materials (e.g. without cellulose acetate for better degradability ) as well as tamping devices and curlers. Gizeh has been developing its own tamping devices for more than 40 years. The “Vario-tamper” received the red dot design award in 2009. The device is adjustable and can process both standard and extra filter tubes.
history
Since the Gizeh cigarette paper processing company was founded in 1920, Gizeh has developed from a regional supplier in Cologne into an internationally active company. During the Second World War, the Cologne location was destroyed and production was relocated to the Bergisches Land. In 1955 the new headquarters of the company was built there (Bergneustadt). Gizeh not only produced smoking accessories here, but also packaging (today Gizeh packaging ) and punched cards. At the beginning of the 1980s, Gizeh set up production sites in France (filter tubes) and Austria (leaflets).
In 1997, the parent company Schoeller & Hoesch sold the Gizeh plant to Deutsche Beteiligungs AG. This spun off the smoking equipment division and sold the newly founded Gizeh Raucherbedarf GmbH to the family company Mignot & De Block ( Eindhoven , Netherlands). In 2002 Gizeh Raucherbedarf left the Bergneustadt location and moved to the newly built headquarters in Gummersbach-Windhagen.
On January 1, 2015, Gizeh took over the filter tube production of Brinkmann Tabakfabriken GmbH, now Brinkmann Raucherbedarf GmbH.
Name and logo
The name of the company is derived from the Egyptian town of Giza . The logo shows the Great Sphinx of Giza with the Great Pyramid in the background. It is actually the case that behind the Sphinx you can see the pyramid from a certain angle.
