The Zhangjiajie Glass Bridge is a bridge in the Wulingyuan countryside in Zhangjiajie , China. With a length of 430 meters and a height of 260 meters above the ground, it was the longest and highest bridge in the world with a glass floor when it opened.

The bridge spans the canyon between two mountain cliffs in the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park in China's central Hunan Province . It opened on August 20, 2016 and is a popular tourist attraction. Their load capacity is designed for up to 800 visitors at the same time. It was designed by the Israeli architect Haim Dotan.

With the opening of a glass bridge in Hebei , it is the second longest glass bridge.

Details

99 glass panels were integrated into the floor of the span over a total length of 430 meters. Each of these panels is 50 mm thick and has a size of 12 m². The total thickness of the footpath is 60 cm.

In addition to the footpath, there is a bunjee and zipline facility.

Temporary closure

On September 2, 2016, just 13 days after the bridge opened, the bridge had to close due to the overwhelming traffic. Instead of the expected 8,000 visitors per day, more than 10,000 allegedly came. The bridge reopened on September 30, 2016 after the visitor facilities were improved.
