history
On the basis of archaeological finds it could be established that there was a small wooden church in Stockheim as early as the 9th century . This was replaced around the year 1000 by a stone church, the main parts of which are still preserved today. There is written evidence of a parish church in Stockheim in Liber valoris from 1308. Stockheim was already an independent parish at that time . At that time, the parish was part of the Deanery Zülpich in the Archdiocese of Cologne . The Kollationsrecht had to Franzosenzeit the lords of Burgau . In 1804 the parish was assigned to the newly founded diocese of Aachen , but returned to the archbishopric in 1825 after the diocese was dissolved. Stockheim has been part of the Aachen diocese again since 1930.
Building history
At the beginning of the 20th century the old parish church became too small and it was decided to build a new church. Between 1935 and 1937, today's parish church was added to the north side of the choir of the old church. The plans for this come from the architect Hubert Hermann from Aachen . The parish only received the building permit from the National Socialist leadership because they planned to confiscate the new church in order to set up a cinema here. However, because of the war, this did not happen.
The parish church was badly damaged during World War II . The damage was repaired in the 1950s. In 1984 the church was renovated under the direction of Jean Joseph Keller.
