Glassverket Idrettsforening is a Norwegian handball club from Drammen . The first women's team played several seasons in the Norwegian Eliteserien.
history
Glassverket Idrettsforening (Glassverket IF) was founded on February 11, 1911. The club houses the ski , handball , football and sports school divisions.
The handball division was founded in 1961. In 1974 the field handball team from Glassverket IF celebrated its first success by winning the Norgesmesterskap, the Norwegian cup competition. Seven years later this success was repeated, but in indoor handball. After the club played in the top Norwegian league in the 1980s, the club appeared from the 1990s mainly in the third-class 2nd divisjon and in the fourth-class 3rd divisjon.
In 2010 Glassverket rose to the second class 1st division and finally two years later to the elite series. In 2015 Glassverket took second place in the Eliteserien , behind the record champions Larvik HK . In the three following years Glassverket took part in European cup competitions. In the 2016/17 season, the club ran into financial difficulties, so the entire team and coach were sacked at the end of the season in order to save personnel costs. The newly formed team took last place in the Eliteserien at the end of the 2017/18 season and was relegated to the 1st division. Shortly after the end of the season, the club decided not to play in the first division for financial reasons.
