Gleb (first name)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gleb is a Russian , Belarusian and Ukrainian male given name . The old Russian name comes from the old Scandinavian name Guðleifr ("God's inheritance"). Despite its Nordic origin, the name has spread in the East Slavic area. The reason for this are the first canonized Russian saints Boris and Gleb . The day of remembrance of the saint is July 24 in the Catholic, Russian Orthodox, and Armenian Churches.

The name corresponds to the German Gottlieb .
