description

Obersulzbach with a glacier trail

The glacier nature trail provides adults and children with knowledge about the formation of glaciers . The moderately difficult hike provides information at 20 stations about the course of the glacier retreat, glacier phenomena such as moraines or glacier cuts and the high alpine vegetation. Along the way, the connections between climatic fluctuations and changes in the glacier will also be discussed.

The glacier path can be reached from Neukirchen am Großvenediger via the Sulzau district . The road leading from there into Obersulzbachtal is freely passable for general traffic as far as Hopffeldboden . From Hopffeldboden to Postalm the walking time is 2.5 hours, approximately, with the first half of an alternative to the forest and at the Almweg on a Kampriesenalm can be covered by leading mountain path on the other side of the valley. Shortly after the Postalm, which can also be reached with a national park taxi or hut taxi, one arrives at the Obersulzbach hut , which marks the highest level of Obersulzbachkees reached in the 19th century. This is where the 5 km long glacier path begins, for which you should allow around 3 hours.
