history

O (beres) and U (nteres) Sulzbach Th (al). Franzisco-Josephinische Landesaufnahme , sheet 30–47 Bruneck , around 1900

The Postalm has been in the family for 5 generations (original family name Maier since 1911). Originally the Alm belongs to the Gasthaus zur Post in Neukirchen (at that time it was located at the market square / music pavilion) - hence the name.

From the beginning, the Postalm served as a base for mountaineers to climb the coveted Großvenediger. With the opening of the Pinzgauer Localbahn (narrow-gauge railway) in January 1898, mountaineers had the opportunity to reach the Oberpinzgau better. In the 1920s the number of tourists increased and there was an increased need for accommodation. The Postalm was rebuilt and enlarged in 1928.

Until about 1975 there was only one path from Hopffeldboden ( ) to the Alm. It was only with the construction of a pull path from the Berndlalm up the valley that management became easier. If necessary, a hut taxi drives from the Hopffeldboden to the Alm.

Development of the Alm since 1980:

  • In 1980 its own hydropower plant was built
  • 1991 Complete renovation and expansion of the house
  • 2002 fully biological sewage treatment plant
  • 2004 New version of the source
  • 2006 new Ziehweg
  • May 2007 start of the energy project (2009 active award, the highest environmental award in Austria)
  • 2010 Construction of the seminar building as the starting point for the energy trail
