The Schelchshorn bell foundry was a historic family of bell foundries in Regensburg .

history

The first proven bell founder of the Schelchshorn family was Paul Schelchshorn. He died before 1585.

His sons were probably Georg and Niclas Schelchshorn. Georg Schelchshorn cast the big bell of the Neupfarrkirche in 1595 . In 1608 he cast the holiday bell of the former convent inprüfunging .

Johann Schelchshorn, probably a son of Georg Schelchshorn, cast two bells for the former Obermünster women's monastery .

He was followed by Johann Georg Schelchshorn, who was the most famous representative of the Schelchshorn family. He cast numerous bells in the Regensburg area, in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate . Often one of the inscriptions read: "Avs dem Feuer I flowed, Georg Schelchshorn of Regensburg gos me ..." His most famous bell is the Little Princess of the Bells of Regensburg Cathedral from 1616.

His successor was the master bell founder Johann Gordian Schelchshorn. He lived at Oberen Bachgasse  7 (former home of Albrecht Altdorfer ) and had his casting house at An der Hülling  6. He was also active in his ancestor's field of activity. His most famous bell is the Grand Princess of the Bells of Regensburg Cathedral from 1696. With it, the tradition of the bell-founding family in Regensburg ended.

One of his sons, Sebastian Schelchshorn, became pastor in Saal an der Donau and died as a canon of the Regensburg Collegiate Church of St. Johann .

meaning

The Schelchshorn family shaped the baroque history of bells in northeastern Bavaria. Many bells, however, were lost due to fire and the effects of war.

Appreciation
