Coordinates: 32 ° 0 ′ S , 151 ° 58 ′ E Gloucester Shire was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 2,952 km² and last had about 4,900 inhabitants.
Gloucester was in the north of the Hunter region near the east coast about 260 km north of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprised 66 hamlets and hamlets, including Barrington, Cobark, Copeland, Gloucester, Rawdon Vale, Rookhurst, Stratford, Upper Bowman and parts of Bundook and Craven. The Shire Council was based in Gloucester, which now has a population of around 2,400.

The Gloucester Shire Council had nine members who were elected by LGA residents. Gloucester was not subdivided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
