Gnadauer Brazil Mission

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gnadauer Brazil Mission (GBM) is an evangelistic community effort within the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brazil .

history

The Gnadauer Brazil Mission e. V., based in Schwieberdingen , was founded in Germany in 1927 by representatives of the Gnadauer Verband and today works with almost 200 employees in southern Brazil. Since the mid-1980s, apart from the pietistic work, a strongly diaconal work has been established. Children's homes and drug rehabilitation centers want to improve the social situation of Brazilians and help those affected.

The Wuerttemberg priest Gottfried Holland has been the managing director and head of the mission since 2004.

Branches of work

Until 2010, the GBM sent up to 20 community service providers and volunteers to Brazil every year . State programs such as FSJ or the International Youth Voluntary Service (IJFD) were used. Due to the strict visa policy of the Brazilian state (no visas for "social internships" are issued to high school graduates), the number was reduced to five volunteers. You traveled with a Brazilian passport. Since 2017, up to 10 young volunteers have again been sent to the various diaconal institutions.

The GBM established diaconal institutions and maintained them by the partner organization Missão Evangélica União Cristã (MEUC):

  • Bom Amigo - the largest day care center in Blumenau ( Santa Catarina )
  • Missão Evangélica de Amparo ao Menor (MEAME) - two children's homes in Ijui (Rio Grande do Sul)
  • Ecos de Esperança (ECOS) - 3 children's homes in Joinville (Santa Catarina)
  • Programa espaço alternativo (PEAL) - 8 after-school care centers in Timbo, Fraiburgo , Jaragua do Sul, Benedito Novo, Alto Benedito Novo, Indaial, Pomerode (Santa Catarina)
  • Centro de Recuperação Nova Esperança (CERENE) - 6 rehabilitation centers for drug addicts in Blumenau, Ituporanga, Lapa, Palhoca, São Bento do Sul (Santa Catarina)

With the Faculdade luterana de Teologia, the GBM has had a theological faculty since 2000, which trains up to 50% of Lutheran pastors.

In addition to 70 theologians, the GBM has a further 190 employees.

The office is located in Schwieberdingen ( Strohgäu ).
