Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus (Consul 201 BC)
Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus († 184 BC ) was a Roman senator , politician and military.
Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus belonged to the Lentuli branch of the Cornelier family . 217 BC He became an augur and remained so until his death. He took 216 BC As a military tribune in the battle of Cannae . In contrast to many other members of the Roman upper class, he survived the defeat and was able to return to Rome. There he began in 212 BC As quaestor in Lucania with the course honorum . 205 BC He was aedile with his brother Lucius , 201 BC. He finally became consul at the side of Publius Aelius Paetus . Lentulus was thus consul at the end of the Second Punic War . He commanded the Roman fleet near Sicily. 199 BC As triumvir coloniae deducendae , Lentulus was responsible for Narnia, which was destroyed by the Romans during the war . In 196/95 he was a member of a Senate Committee of Ten sent to Greece.
