Gnaeus Papirius Carbo (* around 135 BC; † 82 BC in Lilybaeum ) was multiple consul of the Roman Republic . He belonged to the Papirii Carbones , a plebeian branch of the gens Papiria , and was a nephew of Gaius Papirius Carbo , the consul of 120 BC. Chr.

Life

Gnaeus Papirius Carbo was a strong supporter of Gaius Marius' party and participated in the blockade of Rome in 87 BC. Part. Although he continued to have a large army and the Samnites were loyal to him, Carbo was so disheartened by his failure to help Praeneste where the younger Marius was holed up that he decided to leave Italy. He fled first to Africa , then to the island of Cossyra ( Pantelleria ), where he was arrested; he was brought before Pompey in chains at Lilybaeum and killed.
