Godfather cocktail

The God Father or Godfather ( English for godfather ) is an alcoholic cocktail made from scotch whiskey and amaretto . The short drink is one of the after-dinner drinks .

history

The history of the cocktail cannot be fully traced. The amaretto brand Disaronno claims that the cocktail, which first appeared in the 1970s - and is thus a comparatively young drink - was Marlon Brando's favorite drink . This played in the 1972 American feature film The Godfather (German title Der Godfather ) Don Vito Corleone, one of the most powerful mafia bosses in New York City . Accordingly, the name of the cocktail would go back to the film title.

Preparation and variations

The International Bartenders Association (IBA) leads the God Father in its list of official IBA cocktails in the category Contemporary Classics (about: contemporary classics ) and recommends the preparation with equal parts - each 3.5  oz - scotch and amaretto. The drink is built directly in the glass, which means that the ingredients are poured into an old-fashioned glass and gently stirred after adding ice.

A drink very similar to the cocktail is the Rusty Nail , which is mixed from Scotch and Drambuie . With the French Connection cocktail , the scotch is replaced by cognac , with the God Child with cream .

God Mother

The God Mother in particular has established itself as a modification of the cocktail . The scotch is substituted by vodka . This variant of the drink is also listed by the International Bartenders Association in its list of Official IBA Cocktails in the Contemporary Classics category.
