God zij met ons Suriname is the national anthem of Suriname .
history
The text in its current version comes from Trefossa. The Surinamese poet Henri Frans de Ziel (1916–1975) hides behind this pseudonym . De Ziel revised the second stanza of Suriname's trotsche stroomen in 1959 on behalf of Frank Essed , member of the Suriname Council of Ministers . This song was written in 1893 by the Lutheran pastor Cornelius Atses Hoekstra for the Sunday School, but it became one of the country's unofficial hymns.
De Ziel found the original text too negative and changed most of the passages.
The text was originally sung to a melody composed by Johannes Corstianus de Puy (1835–1924) in 1876 . For the new official anthem, De Ziel initially selected the composition Welkom by Johannes Nicolaas Helstone (1853–1927). However, the colonial administration spoke out against this melody, so that De Ziel's text is sung to the melody of De Puy to this day (here: the second stanza in Sranantongo).

First stanza (alternatively from Dutch)
- God be with our Suriname.
- May he praise our wonderful country.
- However we got together here
- we are connected to his earth.
- Working is in our minds
- Law and truth set free.
- All that is hopeful to look at
- that gives our country greatness.
Second stanza (alternatively from Sranantongo)
- Come! loves her fellow countrymen
- Suriname is calling you.
- Wherever our ancestors came from
- we move the country forward.
- The dispute must be fought
- we are not afraid of this.
- God is with us our whole life,
- we accept the quarrel for our country.

The changed lines in italics:
- Suriname's trotch,
- Suriname's heerlijk country,
- Suriname's celebrations are booming,
- Trouw zijn wij aan u verpand.
- Weer de vlooten varen,
- Dat de handel welig bloei ',
- Dat fabrieken welvaart baren,
- Everything is so big here.
- God zij met ons Suriname
- Hey hey ons heerlijk land!
- But dat elk zich dan ook shame
- The zijn ere maakt te shame '
- Right en waarheid te consider
- Zeed'lijk rein en vroom en vrij
- Al wat bad is despised
- Dat checked aan ons land waardij!
